Rain soaked slick highway being blamed for auto crash west of Jasper

Giving up was never a thought or an option as the volunteers of the Beech Grove Fire Department worked without stop for close to an hour on Wednesday evening to rescue a trapped driver from her wrecked car.

Police, fire and other emergency crews were dispatched to the location on Highway 190, just west of Farm to Market Road 777, west of Jasper, shortly before 6:00, when it was reported that an eastbound vehicle had apparently hit a slick spot, causing it to leave the highway and hit a tree.

The impact caused the car to spin around and hit the tree again, resulting in damage to both the front and drivers side of the car, trapping the female driver inside.

Upon their arrival at the scene, the volunteers of the Beech Grove Fire Department and others immediately went to work using a myriad of hydraulic tools, saws and even the winch cable of a wrecker truck to free the driver as emergency medical technicians attempted to tend to her injuries.

With the help of all involved, including State Troopers, the driver was finally freed and transported by ambulance to a hospital in Lufkin, where she was at last word still undergoing treatment.

Firemen at the scene said it was one of the worst cases of entrapment they had ever seen with the car being damaged on the left door and the front, pinning the driver inside.

Following the crash, Beech Grove Fire Chief Jamie Gunter said it was a classic moment where everyone, firemen, emergency medical technicians, state troopers and the crew from Jasper Towing and Recovery, all worked together to save a life. Gunter said "Everyone did what they were trained to do and we hope it has a good outcome."

It’s rare to hear good news from someone who was in a vehicle crash as horrific as the one that 21-year-old Dymirayechon Britton was in. In mo…
